The objective of the Humanscale headquarters project in New York City was to create a space that maximizes collaboration, productivity, and promotes innovative thinking. The design concept focused on movement in nature, using curvilinear lines and repetition to imply organic movements of elements. The open floor plan provided a flexible working environment, while the neutral color palette with complementary colors aimed to enhance productivity and concentration.
Inspiration for the project was drawn from the striations and colors found in canyon walls, created by the flow of water, movement of wind, and erosion. The floor plan featured an open concept, offering private workstations, meeting areas, and touchdown spaces. Natural light was prioritized, with glass partitions allowing it to penetrate the space and create visual connections.
The corridor served as a cohabitation area with impromptu meeting zones, utilizing dead space and rhythmic baffles to disperse sound. The lounge area provided a stress-free coworking space, while the design studio featured an open plan for department collaboration. The use of orange accents added an energetic feel, balancing the softness created by curved soffits and walls.
